I am not a hospitalist but my wife is and I looking for some advice. How do all of you get sleep with the shifting schedules? My wife's schedules are so odd that I have to keep track in my outlook calendar and I feel it is messing with her sleep schedule. Not only that but I think that her residency made her such a light sleeper that any slight noise wakes her up, and once she is up, she cannot go back to sleep. The slightest noise of a lawn mower in the summer or a snow blower in the winter will wake her. Even a popping of my ankles or knees goinig up and down the stairs (I am an ex Army Ranger.....and all of the road marches and jumping killed my joints) will wake her. Her lack of sleep is getting to her and is adding to her stress which I understand, I went through Ranger School and spent many a weeks in the Army with out sleep, and know how lack of sleep plays with your stress. She has tried everything from ear plugs to soothing music but nothing works. I am hoping one of you will have some ideas or tricks of the trade that you have learned. I hope to get some advice here that would help her. Thank you in advance.
